As part of the 2025 @brisbane.pride festival, our service was honoured to be invited as panelists to the inaugural Carswell Forum hosted by @qld.lgbtqia.alliance Named in recognition of pioneering HIV and LGBTIQA+ activist the late Phil Carswell OAM, the Forum brought together community members, activists and government representatives to discuss emerging issues impacting our communities. LGBTILS staff spoke as part of the Domestic and Family Violence panel and the Racism, Rights and Responsibility panel. We learned so much from the collective wisdom and experience of the other guests and panelists. Thanks again to the Queensland LGBTQIA+ Alliance for hosting such a phenomenal event!

We had such a wonderful time at the @brisbane.pride celebrations in Meanjin on the weekend! We were joined at the rally by friends from across the legal assistance sector and broader legal profession, including Tenants Queensland @claytonutz @caxtonclc @mcr_law @basicrightsqueensland @lawrightqld and more! Then throughout the fair day we chatted to dozens of people at our stall about legal issues impacting LGBTIQA+, sistergirl and brotherboy communities in Queensland. Last week our team traveled throughout the country to connect, build alliances, and talk about our work! Last Thursday the team from our Queer Migrant Project presented as part of the Queer Displacements Conference in Naarm. The event had a focus on Asia and the Pacific, and our team discussed domestic and family violence, intersectionality, and LGBTIQA+ migrant community experiences in Queensland. Meanwhile in Canberra we also presented at the Community Legal Centres Australia National Conference. Our Patron Matilda Alexander was joined by our Policy and Advocacy manager to present on legal issues impacting LGBTIQA+ people, with a particular focus on DFV responses, vilification, and protecting access to gender-affirming care.
