We are pleased to advise that the Annual General Meeting for the LGBTI Legal Service will be held on Thursday 12 December 2024, kindly hosted at Minter Ellison (Level 22, Waterfront Place, 1 Eagle Street, Brisbane). The meeting will be held both in person and online.
You are welcome to arrive from 5pm for light refreshments and networking. Formal proceedings including presentations from staff and our guest speaker will kick off at 6.00pm sharp, and we aim to wrap up by 7:30pm.
2024 marks 15 years since the LGBTI Legal Service was incorporated, and to celebrate we will be joined by special guest Julie Howes, who was instrumental in founding the Service and oversaw its establishment as the inaugural volunteer Coordinator from 2009-2012. Julie has returned to Queensland after spending 12 years in community legal centres in NSW (including founding the first specialist DFV legal service for LGBTIQA+ people, the Safe Relationships Project at Inner City Legal Centre, which is still going strong today), and lives and works on Darumbal country (Rockhampton).
Please RSVP by Tuesday 3 December so that we can confirm numbers for catering.
Membership
We encourage everyone to become a member of the Service.
New members are required to submit a membership form here. We would appreciate if renewing members could also complete this form to ensure contact details are up to date.
Only members who have paid the membership fee by 5pm on Wednesday 11 December 2024 are eligible to vote at the AGM. Membership fees are set out in the Membership Form and can be paid via donorbox or bank deposit (details in Membership Form).
Proxy
We encourage everyone to join us at the AGM. However, if any member is unable to and wishes to appoint someone to vote on their behalf, please complete and return the Proxy Form.
Management Committee nominations
If you wish to nominate for a position on the Management Committee, please complete and return the Nomination Form – Management Committee and Declaration – Management Committee. You must be a financial member to stand for nomination (other than for the Secretary) and must be nominated by two other financial members.
In accordance with the LGBTI Legal Service Rules of Association, nominations must be received 10 days before the annual general meeting, by 5pm on Monday 2 December.
A list of nominations will be posted on our website and circulated to members at least 7 days before the annual general meeting.
If, at the start of the meeting, there are not enough candidates nominated, nominations may be taken from the floor of the meeting.
