Save Community Legal Centres –
End the Funding Crisis

Across the country, Community Legal Centres (CLCs) like LGBTI Legal Service are struggling to survive.

CLCs are facing a funding and workforce crisis. LGBTI Legal Service is one of only four dedicated queer CLCs nationwide.

LGBTIQA+ people need a network of both specialist queer legal services and safe, inclusive mainstream legal services to find safe pathways for legal help for the range of legal problems.

At LGBTI Legal Service, we have only enough funding to employ just one full-time lawyer to provide a statewide service.

We need your help.

Multiple reports have shown that LGBTIQA+ people are especially likely to have experience of poverty, abuse, and to have need of legal support. An Independent Review of legal assistance funding arrangements recommended that LGBTIQA+ people be included in the list of priority groups and called for additional funding to be allocated.

However, the Australian government has yet to allocate any funding for CLCs beyond June 2025. In this year’s federal budget, Community Legal Centres received less than 1/100th of the funding experts say is needed. With your support, we can help our leaders see that this is simply not enough.
