LGBTIQA+ Performer Roundtable

July 18, 2023

Are you an LGBTIQA+ performer in Queensland?

We are seeking LGBTIQA+ performers, including drag and burlesque performers, to participate in a roundtable discussion on the legal issues faced by performers in Queensland.

Why are you holding a roundtable?

Performers are a key part of the Queensland LGBTIQA+ community. Many of the opportunities for the community to come together centre on art and performances. However, in bringing this sense of joy and community to LGBTQIA+ people, performers face many legal and practical issues. We have heard from performers in Meanjin that they regularly face issues including:

  • issues with invoicing venues, receiving timely payment and enforcing late fees; and
  • lack of protection for workplace injuries.

We would like to develop resources and education to assist LGBTQIA+ performers to access their rights. This roundtable will be an opportunity to hear from the performer community and identify the resources they hold, knowledge they share and where our expertise can assist.

We hope to support performers in continuing to serve the community (pun intended).

How do I get involved?

We are holding two roundtables over July and August. Fill out this form to receive an invitation.
