Our legal advice consultations are run over the phone at a time suitable for you and our volunteer lawyer assisting you.
All of our volunteer lawyers are LGBTIQA+ friendly. To receive advice, you will need a pre-booked appointment.

How we can help
You can attend the Service for legal advice and information where you have legal issues arising from your identification as LGBTIQA+ person and/or where you feel more comfortable dealing with a solicitor who has specific skills, interest and understanding of issues and barriers faced by the LGBTIQA+ community.
What to bring
Please bring to your appointment:
- All paperwork related to your legal issue or question. We recommend you email this to our Service in advance.
- The full name of the person / company / institution who is on other side of dispute. Without this information, we cannot check for a Conflict of Interests and cannot give you legal advice.
- A list of questions you would like the solicitor to answer.
What to expect
At your appointment, a qualified lawyer will listen to your legal issue and read any accompanying material, give general advice, help you to understand your options and provide a written copy of their advice.
Unfortunately due to the capacity of the Service and legal requirements, we are unable to assist in relation to the following matters:
- Immigration and visas
- Medical negligence
- Building disputes
- Personal injuries
- Taxation law
- Commercial law
- Investments
Whilst our volunteer lawyers are unable to provide legal representation outside the legal advice sessions, we can provide you with useful information to represent yourself in court. Furthermore, The Service cannot give second opinions or advise you on behalf of someone else unless you have a power of attorney.
Cultural diversity
Our Service is committed to providing a safe and culturally appropriate space for all people accessing the service. An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander volunteer may be able to attend your session to talk to you before the appointment and come along with you for the legal appointment. Please inform us if you are interested in accessing this support. If you do identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, please let us know if you are interested in volunteering to be a support person.
