About Us

About the LGBTI Legal Service

The LGBTI Legal Service is a non-profit community legal service that was launched in 2010 by the Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG. The Service recognises the difficulties faced by LGBTIQA+ community and strives to provide access to justice and legal assistance to all Queenslanders within the LGBTIQA+ community.  The service also endeavours to regularly provide community legal education activities and resources in order to increase awareness of legal rights and issues relating to the LGBTIQA+ community in Queensland. The Service includes a Law Reform division which is actively involved in advocating for law reform and human rights affecting the LGBTIQA+ community. Read more about our involvement in Law Reform here.

The LGBTI Legal Service Inc has been established by and continues to be overseen by a Management Committee of individuals representing the diverse communities under the LGBTIQA+ banner. As a non-profit, volunteer-centric community organisation, we rely heavily on the support of the community and volunteers. There are a number of ways that you can become part of and assist our organisation.

Our Management Committee

Kathryn Cramp – President

A picture of Kathryn CrampKathryn has been volunteering with the LGBTI Legal Service since in 2014 and became a member of the Management Committee in 2019. Kathryn acts as President and Executive Director of the Legal Service preparing law reform submissions, creating community legal education material and creating fundraising opportunities. She also serves on the Brisbane South Primary Health Network Community Advisory Board addressing LGBTIQA+ issues in the context of health care delivery by general practitioners.

Kathryn’s volunteer history includes volunteering with Australian Lawyers for Human Rights on the management committee and as co-chair of the LGBTI Subcommittee, and with Brisbane Pride on the management committee. She also volunteered as the Queensland Women’s Coordinator for Out For Australia, as Legal Assistant to the Asylum & Refugee Law Project and as a student volunteer with the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service and Caxton Legal Centre.

Kathryn was also previously the President and Queer Officer of UQ Union. She now works full time in government following her time in the private sector in employment and migration law.

Kate Fuller – Secretary

Kate Fuller is a Brisbane based barrister, Secretary of the Management Committee and volunteer lawyer with the LGBTI Legal Service. She is also a sessional lecturer with the College of Law.

Kate practices predominantly in criminal law, child protection, domestic violence and family law, as well as all the in-between areas of these types of law. Kate was called to the bar in 2021. Prior that, she was a partner at Fuller & White Solicitors. She has a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Griffith University and a Masters Degree in Criminal Law from the University of Wollongong, where she completed her thesis on strangulation offences.

Kate is a badge bearing feminist and proud ally. There remain substantial barriers within the law, and the agencies that are involved in the administration of justice, to LGBTIQA+ folk. Her involvement with the LGBTI Legal Service is a source of immense pride because of the important work that the service does in bringing about change and supporting people caught within the legal system.
